Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the renaming of three Delhi Metro stations—Pitampura becomes Madhuban Chowk, Pitampura North changes to Haiderpur Village, and the new North Pitampura station is now North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar. The changes aim to simplify navigation and reflect local area identities.
In a significant move to improve the commuting experience for daily travelers, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on November 16, 2025, the renaming of three Delhi Metro stations. The decision follows long-standing demands from residents and local leaders and is intended to clearly identify the areas the stations serve, thereby reducing confusion for passengers and visitors.
Key Highlights:
Pitampura Metro Station: The existing Pitampura Metro Station, located on the Red Line in northwest Delhi, will now be renamed Madhuban Chowk Metro Station. This name is reflective of the area’s vibrant cultural identity and will help passengers better associate the station with its locale.
Pitampura North Metro Station: The proposed Pitampura North Metro Station will be renamed Haiderpur Village Metro Station. This change acknowledges the growing importance and distinct identity of Haiderpur Village in the region.
North Pitampura Metro Station: The proposed station in the QU Block will now bear the name North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar Metro Station, linking it clearly with the adjoining Prashant Vihar area to aid navigation.
Phase IV Expansion: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is currently constructing around 112 kilometers of new metro lines as part of its ongoing Phase IV expansion. These renamed stations are part of the under-construction RK Puram-Janakpuri corridor, which is expected to become operational next year, enhancing connectivity and commuter options in the city.
Government Statement: CM Rekha Gupta emphasized that the renaming aims to make metro travel more intuitive and user-friendly. “We have considered suggestions from citizens and party leaders to make commuting easier and ensure that every passenger travels without difficulty,” she said.
Previous Renaming: This initiative follows a recent precedent in July 2023 when the HUDA City Centre station was renamed Millennium City Centre to reflect local identity better.
The Delhi government’s commitment to improving public infrastructure and accessibility continues with this thoughtful step, aiming to blend practicality with local culture.
