Delhi Transport Corporation Resumes Interstate Bus Service, Connecting Key Cities and Religious Destinations

Delhiites can now look forward to improved interstate travel as the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has announced the resumption of its interstate bus service. The initiative, approved during a recent DTC board meeting, aims to enhance connectivity between Delhi and neighboring states while promoting sustainable mobility.

Major Developments

The DTC will roll out 100 electric interstate buses, covering 17 key routes across North India.
The service will reconnect Delhi with cities such as Shimla, Jaipur, Aligarh, and Lucknow, which were previously linked through DTC’s extensive interstate network.
Religious destinations including Haridwar, Ayodhya, Rishikesh, Meerut, and Baghpat have been prioritized to meet growing commuter demand.
The initiative aligns with the Delhi government’s “Green Delhi, Clean Delhi” campaign, focusing on reducing pollution and improving public transport efficiency.

Route Expansion and Connectivity

The new fleet will cover distances ranging between 250 and 300 km from Delhi, ensuring seamless travel for passengers.
The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has been consulted to assess the feasibility of operating buses along these routes.
The buses will be operated by existing DTC drivers, ensuring smooth integration into current operations.

Environmental and Economic Impact

The introduction of electric buses is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, contributing to Delhi’s broader sustainability goals.
The move supports the government’s vision of promoting green mobility while enhancing interstate transport infrastructure.
Plans are underway to increase non-fare revenue through advertisements placed on buses, with a projected annual revenue of ₹5 crore.
