Hyderabad is set to make a splash on the national tourism map with the upcoming launch of one of India’s largest tunnel-style aquariums at Nehru Zoological Park. Scheduled to open by 2026, this ₹50-crore project promises visitors the thrill of walking through a glass tunnel surrounded by sharks, vibrant reef fish, and rare aquatic species from around the world.
Key Highlights:
Massive Scale and Immersive Design: Spanning 4,000 square metres, the aquarium will feature a walk-through tunnel, giving guests the sensation of strolling beneath the ocean with marine life swimming overhead and all around them. This will be the largest facility of its kind in India, designed to rival global attractions.
Global Collaboration: The project brings together marine experts from Singapore, Australia, and India. The design draws inspiration from world-renowned aquariums in Singapore and Ahmedabad, with advanced climate control and eco-friendly infrastructure at its core.
A “Living Classroom”: More than just an attraction, the aquarium is envisioned as an educational hub. Themed zones will replicate real ecosystems—rivers, coral reefs, and deep-sea habitats. Visitors can expect interactive technology like augmented reality, digital guides, and educational tours to make learning about marine conservation engaging and fun.
Rare and Exotic Species: From Amazonian arowanas to African cichlids, the aquarium will house a wide variety of global aquatic life, many of which are rarely seen in Indian aquariums.
Tourism and Education Boost: The project is expected to draw families, students, and tourists, elevating Hyderabad’s status as a hub for wildlife tourism and experiential learning.
Currently, the project awaits final clearance from the Central Zoo Authority, but once approved, it’s set to become a must-visit destination for anyone heading to Hyderabad.
