Re Sustainability Limited has inaugurated Re Carma, a state-of-the-art end-of-life vehicle (ELV) recycling facility located at the Reliance Model Economic Township in Jhajjar, Delhi NCR. With an annual dismantling capacity of over 30,000 vehicles, the hub is now India’s largest organized ELV recycling ecosystem. This initiative marks a significant step toward building a circular economy in the automotive sector, addressing the country’s growing vehicle scrappage challenge while promoting responsible resource recovery.
The facility is part of a broader pan-India network operated by Re Sustainability, with a cumulative annual capacity exceeding 200,000 metric tonnes. Re Carma is designed to process a wide range of vehicles, including passenger cars, commercial fleets, and heavy equipment, using advanced dismantling technologies and sustainable recycling practices.
Key Highlights From The Re Carma Launch
- Re Carma can dismantle more than 30,000 vehicles annually
- Located in Jhajjar, Delhi NCR, within the Reliance Model Economic Township
- Covers passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and earthmoving equipment
- Integrated with the VAHAN database for digital traceability
- Issues government-recognized Certificates of Vehicle Scrapping (Form-4)
- Operates under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards
- Part of a national network with over 200,000 metric tonnes annual capacity
Technology And Infrastructure
The Re Carma facility is equipped with automated dismantling lines, robotic sorting systems, and advanced material recovery units. It enables efficient extraction of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, critical minerals, and rare earth elements. The infrastructure is designed to minimize waste and maximize reuse, aligning with global best practices in ELV recycling.
Digital integration with the VAHAN vehicle registry ensures transparency and legal compliance. The issuance of Form-4 certificates includes chassis cut-out images and digital documentation, streamlining the scrappage process for vehicle owners and manufacturers.
Environmental And Policy Alignment
India is facing a mounting ELV crisis, with over 5.1 million light motor vehicles older than 20 years and another 3.4 million beyond 15 years. The Central Pollution Control Board estimates that more than 20 million vehicles will reach end-of-life status by 2025. Unregulated scrappage poses serious risks to air quality, soil health, and water systems.
Re Carma offers a structured solution aligned with India’s voluntary vehicle scrappage policy. The facility supports GST-linked incentives for responsible disposal and contributes to reduced dependence on virgin material extraction. Its operations are in line with India’s sustainability goals and commitments under the Paris Agreement.
Strategic Partnerships And OEM Engagement
Re Sustainability has partnered with several global automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure compliant and environmentally sound vehicle recycling. These partnerships help OEMs meet their Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations and promote safe disposal practices.
The company’s franchisee and partner network spans multiple states, enabling decentralized access to certified recycling services. This model helps curb illegal scrappage and encourages adoption of formal ELV management systems.
Outlook And Future Roadmap
Re Carma’s launch marks a pivotal moment in India’s transition toward a circular automotive economy. The facility is expected to scale operations further, with plans to expand into Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. Re Sustainability aims to replicate the model nationwide, creating a grid of ELV recycling hubs.
Future enhancements include AI-driven diagnostics, robotic dismantling, and blockchain-based traceability. These innovations will improve operational efficiency, stakeholder trust, and environmental outcomes.
