What Happened?
The WBJEE 2025 exam was conducted on April 27, 2025, for admission into undergraduate programs in Engineering, Pharmacy, and Architecture across government and private colleges in West Bengal. However, the declaration of results was delayed due to a legal challenge regarding the implementation of a revised OBC reservation list.
The Calcutta High Court observed that the merit list prepared by WBJEEB did not comply with its earlier order dated May 21, which prohibited the use of the updated OBC list for admissions. The court ruled that the new reservation policy introduced on June 10, 2025, could not be applied retrospectively to an exam held in April.
Justice Kausik Chanda directed the board to issue a fresh merit list that includes a 7% reservation for 66 OBC classes recognized prior to 2010. The entire exercise must be completed within 15 days from the date of the order.
