The Directorate General of Training (DGT) and Shell India have launched a path-breaking Green Skills-focused Electric Vehicle (EV) training program with a view to equipping young professionals with technical skills in sustainable mobility. This is part of India's overall push towards clean energy and workforce development.
Program Structure and Implementation
Training will be rolled out across five states: Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) will be the skill development focal centers.
The program has a multi-level strategy with a 240-hour high-end EV technician program at specially designated NSTIs, a 90-hour job-specific EV program at ITIs with specialty labs, and a 50-hour basic green skills module at other ITIs.
Hands-on Learning and Certification
Dedicated EV training centers will be established to provide hands-on training in battery technology, diagnostics, digital tools, and safety protocols.
Over 250 trainers will undergo a comprehensive training program to provide high-quality training.
The participants will receive co-branded certification from Shell and DGT, enhancing their employability in the green mobility sector.
Impact on India's Green Economy
The initiative will support national initiatives like the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme.
By creating a highly skilled workforce, the initiative is hoping to propel India's transformation towards low-carbon technologies.
This collaboration is a demonstration of dedication to sustainability and skill development, ensuring that India's youth become ready for the evolving green energy space.
