Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata has officially launched a new DigiYatra facility aimed at revolutionizing domestic air travel. Inaugurated on July 17, 2025, the system leverages facial recognition technology to enable contactless, paperless movement for domestic transfer passengers.

PassengerCentric Design:

  • It eliminates the need for physical boarding passes and ID checks, reducing congestion and wait times
Technology Integration:
  • DigiYatra uses biometric authentication to verify passenger identity and travel credentials
  • Once registered via the DigiYatra app, travelers can pass through designated gates using facial recognition alone
Operational Efficiency:
  • The system enhances security while streamlining terminal navigation
  • It aligns with the Government of India’s vision for a digitally empowered aviation ecosystem
Broader Context:
  • Kolkata joins other major hubs like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai in adopting DigiYatra
  • The facility was inaugurated by passengers in the presence of Airport Director Dr. P. R. Beuria and senior officials from the Airports Authority of India
This addition marks a significant stride in modernizing India’s airport infrastructure, promising faster, safer, and more efficient travel for millions.
