Born in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, on February 16, 1945, La Ganesan’s early years were influenced by the ideals of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, where he began as a full-time pracharak in 1970. Two decades of work with the RSS laid the foundation for his political and social vision. In 1991, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, rising through the ranks to become organizing secretary of Tamil Nadu, then national secretary and vice president.
Ganesan’s leadership saw him drive substantial political organization, especially across southern India, and advocate for the welfare of diverse communities. His career in Parliament included service as Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh.
Governorship and Gubernatorial Legacy
La Ganesan’s reputation for discipline and straightforwardness was recognized with gubernatorial appointments. He served as Governor of Manipur from August 2021 and held additional charge as West Bengal Governor between July and November 2022. In February 2023, he assumed office as Nagaland’s Governor, a post he held until his passing.
