France-India AI Alliance: A Step Toward Global AI Balance

The Paris AI Action Summit, which was co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has placed France at the center of India's efforts to catch up with US and Chinese AI development. The February 10-11 summit prioritized fair AI governance, innovation, and easing global cooperation.

France's focus on green data centers and open-source AI has commonality with India's vision under IndiaAI Mission to create foundational AI models and reduce the global digital divide. The collaboration can enable India to utilize French expertise to provide a counterbalance to the US-based players' dominance like OpenAI as well as China's low-cost DeepSeek model.

Major results involve proposals for a foundation to facilitate AI requirements in the Global South and India's announcement to host the upcoming AI summit. The partnership highlights a common vision for open, responsible, and sustainable AI development
