HCLTech CEO C. Vijayakumar has declared traditional IT business models outdated, driven by generative AI’s (GenAI) transformative impact. Speaking at the Nasscom Technology & Leadership Forum, Vijayakumar highlighted how GenAI enables faster output with fewer employees, disrupting decades-old practices of linear revenue growth tied to workforce expansion. He emphasized a shift toward platform services and IP-infused solutions over traditional people-based models.
HCLTech will hire more entry-level employees but with specialized skills to validate AI-generated code. The firm will also recruit 100-200 senior professionals from outside. Vijayakumar also called for India to develop its own large language models (LLMs) to reduce dependence on global vendors, considering their geopolitical significance.
This paradigm shift underscores the need for IT firms to adapt quickly to AI-powered automation and evolving client requirements.
