German Engineering, Indian Power: ZF’s Mega Coimbatore Plant Puts India on the Global Manufacturing Map

Germany’s ZF Group has made a major stride in India’s manufacturing landscape by inaugurating a state-of-the-art ₹192 crore plant in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. This marks ZF’s 19th production site in India and its 11th in Tamil Nadu, reinforcing the company’s commitment to “Make in India for India and the World”.

Key Highlights

Strategic Investment: The new 10,000 sq. meter facility represents a €20 million (₹192 crore) investment, designed to serve India’s booming construction equipment and railway sectors.
Advanced Manufacturing: The plant will produce the ERGOPOWER M automatic transmission and MULTITRAC axles for construction machinery, offering up to 15% fuel savings and unmatched durability for heavy-duty applications.
Rail Sector Focus: It will also localize the EcoMet transmission for the Indian metro rail market, providing modular, cost-effective, and high-performance solutions tailored to diverse metro requirements.
Export Hub: The facility is set to become a key manufacturing and export hub for ZF’s global customers, supporting both domestic and international OEMs with innovative driveline and transmission technologies.
Sustainability and Localisation: The plant underscores ZF’s focus on sustainable growth and local manufacturing excellence, positioning India as a global innovation and production center for the group.
Leadership Speak: Dr. Peter Laier, ZF Board Member, highlighted India’s strategic importance and the company’s intent to grow closer to customers while leveraging India’s engineering strengths. Akash Passey, ZF India President, emphasized the facility’s role in meeting world-class standards and boosting localised production.
Broader Impact: This launch comes as ZF Wind Power Coimbatore celebrates a milestone of producing 50 GW of wind gearboxes, further cementing the city’s status as a global manufacturing powerhouse for ZF.
