The 50th All India School Regatta Championship has commenced on a grand scale at Kolkata's Rabindra Sarobar with South Point and Modern High School early favorites among the top candidates. The gold jubilee issue is being convened by Lake Club, which saw close to 400 students attend from 44 schools, presenting the largest ever school-level country-based rowing tournament.

Huge Participation: The regatta boasts 44 schools from Kolkata and neighboring areas, with students competing in coxed fours, double scull, and indoor rowing in junior and senior categories.
Legacy and Influence: Experienced rower Subhasish Dasgupta, who took part in the very first 1973 season, welcomed the competition as the "nursery for up-and-coming oarspeople." Graduates such as Sweta Bramhachari and Prateek Gupta, now gearing up to participate in the Asian Rowing Championship on behalf of India, bear witness to its legacy.
Excellence in Coaching: Free training has been provided by the state's finest coaches for all participants, escalating the competition standard and promoting emerging champions.
Safety First: Organizers have ensured safety comes first, with compulsory qualification tests, rescue boats, and ambulances ready at all times during the regatta.
Dignitaries and Festivities: The championship was opened by Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, with cricket legend Sourav Ganguly being the chief guest for the grand finale on May 17.
