In a giant step towards sustainable development, the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday announced the introduction of a new 'Integrated Renewable Energy Policy'. The policy will help the state accelerate its shift towards clean energy and meet its ambitious renewable energy targets.
Highlights of the policy are the following:
- Greater emphasis on solar, wind, and hybrid energy options
- Incentives to private investment in renewable energy
- Simplified authorization procedures for greenfield projects
- Grid integration and energy storage technology support
- Encouragement of green hydrogen and other new technologies
Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, while tabling the state budget for 2025-26, emphasized that the policy will be instrumental in Tamil Nadu's quest for a one trillion-dollar economy. The government hopes the new policy will bring in high-value investments, generate jobs, and position Tamil Nadu as a front-runner in Indian renewable energy.
