India’s GST collections surged 12.6% year-on-year to an all-time high of ₹2.37 lakh crore in April, driven by robust domestic consumption (10.7% growth) and a 20.8% spike in import-related revenues. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman credited the milestone to “cooperative federalism” and the GST ecosystem’s deepening reach, with states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat each surpassing 1 million GST registrations.
Key highlights:
Net collections: ₹2.09 lakh crore after refunds, up 9.1% YoY.
Regional growth: Lakshadweep led with a 287% surge, while Andhra Pradesh (-3%) and Mizoram (-28%) lagged.
E-way bills: 20.2% YoY rise in March 2025 signaled heightened economic activity.
Experts attribute the spike to year-end sales, improved compliance, and steady exports ahead of U.S. tariff deadlines.
