King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow has been entrusted with a game-changing ₹1,000-crore investment to enhance its medical facilities and increase specialty services. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several hi-tech facilities on July 14, 2025, marking a new dawn in Uttar Pradesh's medical development.
Key Highlights
- ₹105-crore cardiology block offers 92 ICCU beds, two cath labs, and state-of-the-art echocardiography equipment
- UP opened its first 340-bed orthopaedic super-speciality centre with facilities for orthoplasty, spine surgery, sports medicine, and paediatric orthopaedics
- Laying of foundation for a ₹378-crore general surgery block with robotic surgery, 12 modular OTs, and 12-bed ICU
- An administrative block, diagnostic laboratory, and patient accommodation building at a cost of ₹99.10 crore to be built.
- ₹296 crore for a 500-bed Trauma-2 Centre with nine operating theatres and a patient utility complex
Strategic Vision
- The improvements will reduce patient overload, enhance emergency response, and include advanced medical technology
- A tie-up with IIT Kanpur will establish a Centre of Excellence in Medical Technology

- Facilities will serve more than 5,000 daily patients and enhance the treatment of critical cases from all over UP and the surrounding states - The expansion facilitates MBBS entry into new medical schools and deconcentrates high-level care.
