Hemmed in Hope: Baagwada’s Stitching Drive Crafts a Brighter Future for Women

A part of a large community initiative, the Baagwada drive has been a beacon of hope for widows and homemakers alike, providing them not only with necessary shelter but also a means to earn a living through skill training and sewing. The initiative, which was recently launched in Goa, aims to empower some of the poorest women by financially empowering them and protecting their social status.

 

Key Highlights:

 

Employment & Skill Development: The project will train widows and homemakers in sewing so that they can produce clothes and other stitched items for domestic markets. The vocational skill is designed to provide consistent income generation.

 

Shelter Assistance: In addition to vocational training, the program offers in-need women a safe residence, addressing short-term and long-term security needs.

 

Community Empowerment: By focusing on widows and homemakers—two of society's most marginalized groups—the program encourages more community integration and independence from participants.

 

Local Economic Impact: Products generated by this project are retailed locally in Goa, establishing a local chain of supply that favors the participating women and the wider community.

 

Continuous Expansion: The organizers have also scheduled to expand the program further, with the intention of involving more women from the surrounding areas and adding more skill-based workshops in the future.
