The box office battle between Universal’s live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon and A24’s romantic comedy Materialists continued into its second day, with both films showing contrasting trajectories in India. While the fantasy adventure soared with strong occupancy rates, the Dakota Johnson-led film witnessed a slow but steady rise in collections.

How to Train Your Dragon: A Strong Second Day

- The Mason Thames-Nico Parker starrer earned Rs 4.50 crore on Saturday, June 14, marking a slight dip from its opening day collection of Rs 4.88 crore.

- The film maintained an overall 35.70 percent English occupancy rate, with peak attendance in evening shows at 44.76 percent.

- Chennai led the regional occupancy charts at 54.25 percent, followed by Bengaluru at 52.50 percent and Ahmedabad at 46.25 percent.

- The film’s total Indian box office collection now stands at Rs 9.38 crore, with expectations of crossing Rs 15 crore by the end of the weekend.

Materialists: Slow Growth but Steady Interest

- The Celine Song-directed romantic comedy earned Rs 1.25 crore on its second day, improving from its Rs 0.59 crore opening.

- The film’s total collection in India now stands at Rs 1.85 crore, with a projected weekend total of Rs 3 crore.

- Despite a lukewarm start, the film has seen increased interest, particularly in metro cities where its themes of wealth and relationships resonate with audiences.

Global Box Office Outlook

- How to Train Your Dragon has already crossed $200 million globally, making it the highest-grossing installment in the franchise’s history.

- Materialists, while performing modestly in India, is shaping up to be A24’s third-best wide release, with an estimated $12 million debut in North America.

- Both films are expected to maintain steady momentum in the coming weeks, with How to Train Your Dragon benefiting from strong family audiences and Materialists finding niche appeal among rom-com enthusiasts.
