Army marksman Ravinder Singh clinched gold in the men’s 50m free pistol, while two-time Olympian Elavenil Valarivan secured bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle, marking India’s strong start in the competition.
India’s shooting contingent kicked off their campaign on an impressive note at the 2025 ISSF World Championships held in Cairo, Egypt. Naik Subedar Ravinder Singh, representing the Indian Army, claimed the men’s 50m free pistol gold with a score of 569 points, showcasing remarkable consistency across his rounds. This victory follows his bronze the prior year, elevating him to the pinnacle of his discipline.
Elavenil Valarivan, a two-time Olympian and Asian champion, thrilled fans by securing a bronze in the fiercely competitive women’s 10m air rifle event. Despite leading midway, slight dips in her final shots dropped her to third place with a score of 232.0. She had qualified fifth with 633.4 points and added to the Indian medal tally with the women’s team bronze along with teammates Meghana Sajjanar and Shreya Agrawal.
The men’s 50m pistol team comprising Ravinder, Kamaljeet, and Yogesh Kumar further added a silver medal, narrowly missing gold by two points to South Korea.
The Indian shooters are off to a promising start, reinforcing their standing on the global shooting stage.
