IBM has launched a revolutionizing initiative in its SkillsBuild program to impart basic AI skills to the future student developers. Having been launched on March 6, 2025, the program aims to certify 2 million learners globally by 2026 in order to address the growing demand for AI skills in the workforce.
The initiative includes faculty learning, hands-on experiential labs, and open online courses in generative AI, machine learning, and AI ethics. IBM is collaborating with universities to integrate AI-focussed curricula and provide certifications, readying students for industry.
This program not only closes the AI skills gap but also promotes innovation through enabling students to address real-world problems. IBM's actions should propel the economic growth of the world while getting students ready for new jobs in the technology industry.
