The ownership landscape of India Inc. is undergoing a significant transformation. Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI) stakes in Nifty 50 companies have plummeted to a 12-year low of 24.3%, while promoter holdings have also declined. Conversely, domestic mutual funds (DMFs) and retail investors are gaining ground, with DMF ownership reaching a record high of 9.5%. This shift is driven by sustained FPI outflows and robust domestic investment inflows. The gap between FPI and domestic institutional investor (DII) ownership has narrowed to a historic low of 33 basis points, signaling a new era in Indian capital markets where domestic investors are playing an increasingly pivotal role.
