In a rapid humanitarian action to the cataclysmic 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28, 2025, India has initiated Operation Brahma. The tragedy has resulted in more than 1,600 fatalities and extensive devastation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the deaths in a message to Myanmar's top junta leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, reiterating India's solidarity as a neighboring country.
Under Operation Brahma, India has sent 15 tonnes of relief material through Indian Air Force planes and sent two ships with 40 tonnes of humanitarian assistance. The aid includes tents, blankets, medical kits, food packets, and water purifiers. A 80-person National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team with sophisticated rescue equipment and four search dogs has also been deployed. A field hospital with 118 staff is to follow.
This endeavor reiterates India's "Neighbourhood First" approach and its first-responder nature in times of crises.
