India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that it is "aware" that numerous Indian students in the US have been receiving F-1 visa status notices, in the face of complaints about an increase in visa cancellations and deportations since the Trump presidency. The missions are actively involved and assisting the affected students and keeping regular touch with them to counsel them. The notices are a sequel to a US crackdown on foreign students, at least two Indians being acted against in recent weeks and others seeking to join suits against sudden visa revocation. The MEA highlighted the fact that Indian nationals are bound by compliance with local law and ensured the issue is under close watch. This follows in advance of a visit by US Vice-President JD Vance to India where the US is expected to raise bilateral as well as immigration issues.
