India has announced a significant reduction in import duties on American motorcycles and luxury cars, aiming to boost brands like Harley-Davidson and Tesla. In the Union Budget 2025-26, the customs duty on high-end motorcycles with engine capacities up to 1,600 cc has been cut from 50% to 40%. This strategic move follows former US President Donald Trump's criticism of India's tariffs, although Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that the changes are part of a broader economic strategy rather than a direct response to external pressures. This shift is expected to make American vehicles more affordable in India, fostering stronger trade ties.
