India is conducting virtual follow-up talks with the United States after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Donald Trump recently. The talks are intended to further negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement, with a focus on lowering tariffs and increasing market access. The objective is to conclude the initial phase of the agreement by autumn 2025, with a larger goal of achieving bilateral trade of $500 billion by 2030. India is also working on updated tariff reduction offers in order to enable these talks. The talks are an indication of both nations' intentions to fortify their economic partnership amid threats of mutual retaliatory tariffs that are set to go into effect on April 2.
