The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2025 is out, and once again, there’s no Indian restaurant in the main top 50. It’s a bit disappointing if you were hoping to see an Indian spot among the world’s absolute best this year. But there’s still some good news for fans of Indian food—Mumbai’s Masque has made it onto the extended 51-100 list, coming in at number 68.
Here are the main takeaways:
The top 50 list was announced in Turin, Italy, and includes restaurants from 22 countries. This year’s number one spot went to Maido in Lima, Peru.
While no restaurant from India cracked the top 50, Indian flavors are still getting global attention. Gaggan in Bangkok, which serves progressive Indian cuisine, ranked sixth overall and was named the best in Asia. Trèsind Studio in Dubai, also known for its Indian-inspired menu, landed at number 27.
Masque in Mumbai is the only Indian restaurant to appear on the extended 51-100 list. It’s known for its creative tasting menus that use local Indian ingredients in new ways.
Masque’s recognition shows that Indian chefs and restaurants are pushing boundaries and getting noticed, even if they haven’t broken into the top 50 yet.
The list is put together by more than 1,100 food experts from around the world, so making it anywhere on the list is a big achievement.
So, while India isn’t in the top 50 this year, the country’s food scene is still making waves internationally.
