Amul, led by Managing Director Jayen Mehta, is aggressively expanding its footprint beyond India, targeting global markets amid India’s White Revolution 2.0 initiative. With a cooperative model powering 36 lakh farmers, Amul aims to elevate India’s dairy sector to produce one-third of the world’s milk by 2035.
Amul, India’s largest dairy cooperative, is setting its sights on global markets as India pursues its vision to become the “Dairy to the World.” Managing Director Jayen Mehta underscored Amul’s intent to replicate its successful cooperative model worldwide, coinciding with the government’s ambitious White Revolution 2.0 program running from 2024-25 to 2028-29.
India currently leads as the world’s largest milk producer, contributing about one-fourth of global milk production. With coordinated efforts involving 36 lakh farmers in Gujarat alone, Amul’s cooperative framework has created a resilient dairy supply chain and empowered rural communities economically.
Mehta highlighted plans to expand exports, including entering new markets such as Israel with compliance to local standards, and introducing a broad range of dairy products beyond ghee. The cooperative’s rank as the world’s number one cooperative in 2025 — the United Nations’ International Year of Cooperatives — signals global recognition.
With expected growth fueled by innovations in production, processing, and digital integration, Amul aims to position India as a top dairy exporter, targeting one-third share of global milk production over the next decade.
