Indore has once again been crowned India’s cleanest city in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25, marking its eighth consecutive win in the country’s largest urban cleanliness survey. The awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi, celebrating cities that have demonstrated excellence in sanitation, waste management, and citizen engagement.
Key Highlights From The Survey
- Indore retained the top spot among cities with population over 10 lakh, followed by Surat and Navi Mumbai
- Noida emerged as the cleanest city in the 3–10 lakh category, ahead of Chandigarh and Mysuru
- New Delhi (NDMC) led the 50,000–3 lakh category, while Vita, Saswad, and Deolali Pravara topped the 20,000–50,000 bracket
- Panchgani and Patan were recognised among cities with less than 20,000 population
Survey Framework And Participation
- The ninth edition of Swachh Survekshan assessed over 4,500 urban local bodies
- More than 3,000 assessors conducted inspections over 45 days, covering every ward and engaging 14 crore citizens
- The 2024–25 theme was reduce, reuse, recycle, with 10 parameters and 54 performance indicators guiding the evaluation
Outlook
Indore’s continued dominance reflects its innovative waste segregation, strong civic participation, and governance model. The survey also spotlighted emerging cities showing promise, reinforcing the national mission toward sustainable urban hygiene.
