Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani says artificial intelligence isn’t just a buzzword—it’s fundamentally changing how Infosys works, where its people work, and what its teams look like. Speaking at the company’s annual general meeting, Nilekani described a company in the midst of a major shift, with AI at the center of everything from client projects to employee training.
Key Highlights:
Infosys has trained more than 275,000 of its 320,000 employees in AI, making AI skills a core part of its workforce. Over 20,000 employees now use GitHub for coding, and the company is investing in developing even more AI specialists.
The company is currently working on 400 generative AI projects—a 75% jump from last year—spanning everything from process improvement to cybersecurity and customer service.
Infosys has built over 200 internal AI agents and developed four small language models tailored for areas like financial services, IT operations, and cybersecurity.
AI is now part of nearly every client conversation, and Infosys is seeing strong demand for its AI-powered solutions, especially through its Topaz platform.
The company is also expanding into smaller cities to tap into new talent pools, signaling a shift in where work gets done and who does it.
Nilekani emphasized that Global Capability Centres (GCCs), once seen as rivals, are now key clients for Infosys, especially as companies seek innovation rather than just cost savings.
He highlighted that AI is driving not just technical change but also cultural and operational shifts, requiring companies to rethink legacy systems and data architecture so that data is ready for AI use.
Nilekani acknowledged that these changes come amid global uncertainty, with shifting supply chains, new trade rules, and the ongoing energy transition all adding complexity to the business landscape.
