Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects totaling over Rs 5,100 crore in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, marking a major push in the northeast region’s infrastructure and energy landscape. Speaking at the event held at Indira Gandhi Park, PM Modi highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural richness, strategic importance, and the government’s commitment to accelerating development through these transformative initiatives.
Key Highlights of the Development Works Launched
The infrastructure package comprises two landmark hydroelectric power projects worth over Rs 3,700 crore: the 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project and the 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project, both situated in the Siyom sub-basin of Arunachal Pradesh.
These projects are expected to generate nearly 1,800 million units of clean, renewable electricity annually, significantly boosting the state’s power generation capacity and contributing to national energy security.
A state-of-the-art Convention Centre was inaugurated in Tawang under the PM-DevINE scheme, costing Rs 145.37 crore, designed to meet international standards and capable of hosting 1,500 delegates for national and global events.
Additional infrastructure projects worth over Rs 1,290 crore were launched, including roads to improve connectivity in remote districts like Upper Siang and Dibang Valley, healthcare facilities including a Rs 217 crore State Cancer Institute in Itanagar, fire safety stations, working women hostels, and police infrastructure upgrades.
Significant residential and office accommodation projects were initiated, including 530 new ministerial bungalows and staff quarters across 23 districts for Rs 420 crore, along with mini secretariats in newly created administrative districts.

Arunachal Pradesh, hailed by PM Modi as the "land of the rising sun" and a symbol of patriotism, is poised to emerge as a major energy producer and a cultural tourism hub owing to these developments. The Prime Minister also announced the start of next-generation GST reforms, including the GST Savings Festival, aimed at simplifying taxation and providing financial relief to citizens.
