China has resumed rare earth magnet exports to India after a six-month halt, granting licenses to four Indian companies. The move brings relief to EV, electronics, and renewable sectors, though with conditions—magnets must not be re-exported to the US or used for defense purposes.
In a significant development for India’s tech and clean energy industries, China has approved rare earth magnet imports for four Indian companies: Continental India, DE Diamond, Hitachi, and Jay Ushin. These firms, key suppliers to automakers like Maruti Suzuki, received licenses under strict conditions—prohibiting re-export to the US and defense-related use.
The decision follows a diplomatic thaw between the US and China and aims to stabilize the global supply chain for rare earths, which are critical for electric vehicles, wind turbines, smartphones, and other high-tech applications. India had faced sourcing challenges since China halted exports earlier this year amid geopolitical tensions.
