Mahindra Group and Brazilian aerospace major Embraer have deepened their partnership to produce the C-390 Millennium aircraft in India. Alongside production, the companies announced plans to establish a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, contingent on the aircraft’s selection in the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft program.
Mahindra & Mahindra and Embraer have taken a significant step in strengthening India’s aerospace ecosystem by announcing a dual initiative: production of the C-390 Millennium aircraft in India and the establishment of a dedicated MRO capability. The collaboration, first formalized in October 2025, aligns with the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program and supports the government’s Make in India vision.
The proposed MRO facility will provide in-country sustainment and lifecycle support for the C-390 fleet, ensuring high operational readiness and reducing dependence on overseas servicing. This move is expected to create jobs, boost local aerospace manufacturing, and enhance India’s strategic self-reliance in defense aviation.
Key highlights from the partnership include
-
Mahindra and Embraer to jointly produce C-390 Millennium aircraft in India
-
MRO facility planned to provide lifecycle support and sustainment for the C-390 fleet
-
Initiative contingent on selection under the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft program
-
Supports Make in India and aerospace localization strategy
-
Expected to create jobs and strengthen India’s defense aviation ecosystem
Industry experts note that the partnership positions India as a critical hub for advanced military transport aircraft, combining Embraer’s proven technology with Mahindra’s manufacturing capabilities. The collaboration underscores India’s growing role in global aerospace and defense supply chains.
