Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's sea-facing bungalow Mannat has been officially placed under the scanner after CRZ violations were alleged in its ongoing renovation. A joint inspection by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Forest Department was conducted at the Bandra Bandstand house last Friday.

The inspection was called for after an allegation was made by activist Santosh Daundkar to the effect of unauthorized development and illegal clearances. The target of the inquiry is the annexe building that has been reportedly approved as twelve 1BHK flats and then consolidated into one luxury apartment—a move that may be against the rules of urban planning.

The H-West ward officials, factory department officials, and building proposal department officials accompanied the Forest Department on the visit. Though the BMC described their presence as being only for cooperation with the Forest Department, the report is currently being prepared based on the inspection.

Mannat, the erstwhile Villa Vienna, is a Grade III listed building, and any changes must obtain the approval of the Heritage Conservation Committee and environmental authorities. The activity entails the construction of new floors on two floors in the annexe, raising the question of CRZ and heritage compliance.

Shah Rukh Khan's team, headed by manager Pooja Dadlani, denied any foul play, stating that everything was being undertaken as per norms and that necessary documents will be submitted to the authorities.

The actor, along with some members of his family, have moved temporarily to a luxury flat in Pali Hill for the renovation period.
