The Department of Land Resources (DoLR) will introduce the second phase of Phase 2 of the NAKSHA Capacity Building Programme on 16th June, 2025. This programme will equip urban local body (ULB) officers with cutting-edge geospatial skills in high-precision land surveys as part of India's efforts to upgrade urban land records.

Training Expansion and Key Focus Areas

The training programme will be conducted on four Centres of Excellence: YASHADA, Pune, Northeast Region Centre, Guwahati, MGSIPA, Chandigarh, and ATI, Mysuru.

128 ULB-level and district officers from 74 urban local bodies have been selected for training.

The curriculum encompasses GNSS and ETS-based surveying, Web-GIS applications, mapping of land parcels, and legal-administrative problems of land surveys.

Technology-Driven Urban Land Management

The NAKSHA initiative brings together latest geospatial technologies for enhanced urban property surveys.

The initiative is consistent with India's urban development targets, offering verifiable and accessible land records.

Training will be experiential in nature, bridging the gap between policy making and implementation.

Future Opportunities and National Consequences

With India's urban population expected to reach over 600 million in 2031, effective land management becomes crucial.

The scheme is being implemented along with the Survey of India, NICSI, MPSeDC, and five Centres of Excellence.

NAKSHA has already been launched in 157 urban local bodies spread across 27 states and 3 union territories.

The second batch of Phase 2 is yet another milestone in India's efforts towards revamping urban land governance through tech-based solutions.
