Over 59.19 lakh women received Rs 2,022.08 crore in maternity benefits under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) in 2025-26, boosted by facial recognition and tech innovations. Reviewed by PM Modi, the scheme ensures direct transfers while excluding no eligible beneficiary.
The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana continues to transform maternal support in India. In the current fiscal 2025-26, the Ministry of Women and Child Development disbursed benefits to over 59.19 lakh pregnant and lactating mothers, totaling Rs 2,022.08 crore through direct bank transfers. This surge reflects technological leaps like the Facial Recognition System on Poshan Tracker, eliminating duplicates and ensuring authenticity for new enrolments.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spotlighted PMMVY during the 50th PRAGATI meeting on December 31, 2025, urging zero exclusion of eligibles and robust verification to prevent leakages. Innovations such as UIDAI-based Aadhaar FaceRD app serve as backups where FRS is unavailable, achieving widespread adoption across states and UTs.
The "Due List" mechanism proactively identifies potential beneficiaries from Poshan Tracker data, streamlining Anganwadi-level transfers to the PMMVY portal. Complementing this, a dedicated grievance module and helpline 1515 have expedited resolutions, fostering trust. PMMVY offers Rs 5,000 for the first child (in instalments) and Rs 6,000 for the second if a girl, excluding formal sector workers, to offset wage loss and promote nutrition.
This progress aligns with Mission Shakti, enhancing maternal health and girl child welfare nationwide.
