In a firstever diplomatic meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides jointly hosted a toplevel business roundtable in Limassol on June 15, 2025, and extended invitations to the top CEOs of the two countries to enhance economic cooperation across the board.
Key Points:
Sectoral Synergy: Financiers, defence, logistics, artificial intelligence, fintech, tourism, and digital services business leaders interacted to discuss investments and collaborations.
India's Economic Pitch: PM Modi showcased India's transformation as the world's fastestgrowing large economy on the back of policy continuity, digital strength, and a strong startup ecosystem.
FDI & Financial Linkages: Cyprus reaffirmed itself as one of the key FDI partners, with NSE International Exchange (GIFT City) entering into an MoU with Cyprus Stock Exchange.
UPI Goes Global: NPCI International and Eurobank Cyprus signed an agreement to launch UPIbased crossborder transactions, making life easy for tourists and businesses.
Trilateral Boost: The setting up of the India–Greece–Cyprus (IGC) Business and Investment Council is an attempt to boost cooperation in shipping, renewable energy, and civil aviation.
EU Trade Outlook: Both of the leaders were optimistic about sealing the IndiaEU Free Trade Agreement by the year's end, considering that Cyprus is set to assume the EU Council Presidency in 2026.
This visit—PM Modi's first visit to Cyprus—is a new beginning in regional and international economic diplomacy, turning Cyprus into the gateway for Indian enterprise to Europe.
