The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh heavy rain alert for 30 districts across Uttar Pradesh, including Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Gorakhpur. Varanasi: Ghats Submerged, Thousands Displaced
Varanasi is facing one of its worst monsoon impacts in recent years:
- All 84 ghats have been submerged due to the Ganga’s rising levels
- Over 32 villages and 24 urban localities have reported flooding
- Approximately 6,500 residents have been evacuated to safer zones
- Relief camps have been set up by the district administration
- Boat services and religious activities along the riverfront have been suspended
The Central Water Commission reported the Ganga flowing at 69.98 metres on Thursday, inching dangerously close to the 71.26-metre danger mark.
