NHPC Limited has temporarily halted survey and investigation activities for the ambitious 750 MW Kuppa Pumped Hydro Storage Project in Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat. Despite this pause, the company remains committed to its substantial investment of ₹4,000 crore, set to commence in the financial year 2025-26.
The project, developed in collaboration with Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL), aligns with India's renewable energy goals of achieving 500 GW capacity by 2030 and a "Net Zero" target by 2070. Once operational, the Kuppa project will address critical energy storage challenges while generating significant employment opportunities and boosting the local economy.
NHPC’s decision underscores its strategic focus on green energy solutions, reinforcing its position as a leader in India's hydropower sector. The project is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing sustainable development and energy security in the region.
