Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is all set to resume round-the-clock operations from Saturday, August 16, 2025, ushering in a new era of travel convenience and capacity for the region. After more than five months of extensive renovation and restricted flying hours, the airport will now operate 24 hours a day, making flight schedules more flexible and opening doors to increased air traffic.
Infrastructure Boost and Modernization
The completion of re-carpeting the 2,744-meter runway, strengthened with additional shoulders and upgraded drainage, greatly enhances safety and reliability, particularly during bad weather and dense fog conditions.
New taxiways, including the P-9 and a 110-meter parallel link, have been constructed to streamline aircraft movement. This reduces ground congestion, eases peak hour operations, and accommodates a larger number of flights.
The Airfield Ground Lighting system has been overhauled, switching from halogen to energy-efficient LED lights. This bold move cuts the airport’s electricity consumption by 50%, improving environmental sustainability while boosting operational efficiency.
Capacity Expansion and Passenger Experience
The resumption of 24-hour flight services is expected to boost daily flight numbers to over 132, with the ability to serve nearly 20,000 passengers per day.
As a result of the improvements, airlines have now adjusted their schedules to offer flights across all hours, minimizing previous delays and cancellations caused by maintenance windows.
Plans are in place for further expansion: renovations of Terminals 1 and 2, which, once linked with the newly completed Terminal 3, will potentially double the airport’s annual capacity to more than 11.6 million passengers.

Temporary closures will continue every Wednesday for a few hours, starting August 20 and running through November 5, as part of ongoing phased upgrades.
