Workers unions in NMDC have gone on a deliberate slowdown in work as part of current wage settlement talks. Even after the unions and the management agreeing on the same, the unions have gone ahead with industrial action, severely impacting production. NMDC reported a 60% plus drop in production over the last few days, which has strained meeting its FY25 target of 48 million tonnes. Conciliation proceedings have been convened in front of the Chief Labour Commissioner in New Delhi on March 17, 2025. NMDC management has urged unions not to resort to drastic steps, assuring that these are harmful to the company, workers, and the country. The strike has serious consequences for NMDC's financial performance and could affect employee benefits if the overall performance of the company is adversely impacted.
