Taking a firm decision to counter the yearly monsoon woes, the government of Delhi has revoked all leaves for Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), and Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) Department officials from the junior engineer rank and above up to September 15, 2025. The General Administration Department issued the order allowing leave only on extreme medical grounds with sanction from the Principal Secretary or Additional Chief Secretary.
This action comes as Delhi prepares for another monsoon season, after last year's city-wide waterlogging and flooding paralyzed much of the city. Officials noted that annually, residents are affected by poor drainage, flooded roads, and flooding, making timely preparedness essential. The government has instructed all departments to operate on a 'war footing' in order to finish desilting drains, execute preventive steps, get roads repaired, and clear debris before the rains arrive.
Minister Parvesh Verma has stressed strong surveillance and responsibility, threatening disciplinary action in cases of laxity. With more than 445 waterlogging hotspots reported this year-up from 194 a year ago-the city's engineering department is in top gear to deliver a safer, smoother monsoon for Delhites.
