NTPC Limited has formally declared Commercial Operation Date (COD) for Unit 1 of the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project (STPP), marking a major milestone in augmenting India’s power generation capacity and strengthening grid stability in Jharkhand.

NTPC Limited announced the successful declaration of COD for Unit 1 (800 MW) of the Patratu Super Thermal Power Plant. The unit commenced commercial operations on October 16, 2025, signaling a significant step towards meeting India’s increasing energy demands through reliable and efficient power generation.

The Patratu STPP, situated in Ramgarh district, Jharkhand, is implemented by Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (PVUNL), a joint venture company between NTPC and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL). The project comprises three supercritical thermal units, with Unit 1 now fully operational following smooth trial runs.

This addition strengthens the regional power infrastructure by enhancing supply to the eastern grid, supporting socio-economic growth in the state and surrounding regions. The use of supercritical technology ensures better fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared to conventional thermal plants, aligning with India’s clean energy objectives.

NTPC aims to commission the remaining two units within the current fiscal year, progressively partnering with the government’s vision for sustainable power expansion and energy security.
