Oil India Limited has mechanically completed the upgradation of its Numaligarh-Siliguri Product Pipeline, increasing capacity from 1.77 MMTPA to 5.50 MMTPA. This upgrade supports the Numaligarh Refinery expansion and enhances energy security in Northeast India, boosting fuel supply reliability and regional economic growth.
Oil India Limited (OIL) has announced the mechanical completion of its flagship infrastructure project—the upgradation of the Numaligarh-Siliguri Product Pipeline (NSPL)—on October 12, 2025. This critical development aligns with India’s energy security goals and represents a significant enhancement of the company’s midstream infrastructure to serve the growing energy demands of Northeast India.
The NSPL upgradation project has increased the transportation capacity of the existing pipeline from 1.77 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 5.50 MMTPA. This substantial capacity enhancement is directly linked to the ongoing Numaligarh Refinery Expansion Project by Numaligarh Refinery Ltd., which is ramping up refinery output from 3.00 MMTPA to 9.00 MMTPA. Together, these projects form a comprehensive strategy to strengthen petroleum product supply and infrastructure in the Northeast region.
Key highlights of the project include:
-
Mechanical completion date: October 12, 2025
-
Capacity increase from 1.77 MMTPA to 5.50 MMTPA
-
Supports and complements the refinery capacity expansion at Numaligarh Refinery
