Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is executing a comprehensive blowout control plan at the Mori-5 well in Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, where a jet fire reportedly reached up to 20 metres high after a gas leak on January 5. Senior management and crisis experts are on-site, with intensity of flames reduced and environmental monitoring ongoing.
Specialised teams are clearing debris to gain line-of-sight access for capping operations, while a separate water canal and fire pumps support cooling and suppression. Authorities have evacuated nearby residents, and coordination with police, SDRF, and district administration is underway to ensure safety and transparency during the operation.
The well is operated by Production Enhancement Contractor Deep Industries Ltd, with ONGC overseeing crisis management and blowout mitigation. Officials indicate progress, but caution that full control depends on stabilising well pressure and safe access for capping and sealing interventions.
