The Prime Minister of India was contacted by the Congress party yesterday, claiming that he better take cues from President Trump's comments about paper-ballot and same-day voting. The Congress general secretary, KC Venugopal, raised the question to know whether Modi would do little else to address the concern on the integrity with which India's elections are being conducted, where he referred to Trump's comments at a governors' meeting. The opposition party reiterated its demand for a return to paper ballots, expressing doubt as to the reliability of electronic voting machines (EVMs). The BJP, however, maintains that EVMs are secure, that there is no plan to revert to paper ballots, and that, at best, they remain conducive to democratic functioning.
