The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched Param Shakti, a 3.1 petaflop supercomputing system at IIT Madras. Developed by C-DAC under the National Supercomputing Mission, the system will accelerate research in aerospace, climate modelling, drug discovery, and advanced manufacturing, strengthening India’s technological self-reliance.
On January 3, 2026, MeitY unveiled the Param Shakti supercomputing facility at IIT Madras, powered by the indigenous Param Rudra cluster. Built entirely in India using C-DAC’s RUDRA series of servers, the system delivers a peak computing capacity of 3.1 petaflops, capable of performing over 3.1 quadrillion calculations per second.
The facility is part of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM), jointly led by MeitY and the Department of Science and Technology. It is designed to support cutting-edge research across multiple domains, reducing years of experimental work into days and enabling India to compete globally in high-performance computing.
