Union Minister Piyush Goyal took a serene shikara ride on Dal Lake in Srinagar on Sunday, July 6, 2025, during his multi-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Calling the region “heaven on Earth,” Goyal reflected on the peace and nostalgia the lake evoked, saying it reminded him of his school days. The boat he rode was aptly named “Peace of Heaven.”

Goyal’s Reflections on Kashmir
“The peace I experience when I come to Dal Lake takes me back to my school days. I haven’t forgotten my childhood memories. God has given a heaven to the country,” Goyal said

He also praised the people of Kashmir for their resilience and support during Operation Sindoor, launched after the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. Goyal expressed confidence that terrorism, like Naxalism, would be eradicated with collective resolve.

Focus on Development and Tourism
During his visit, Goyal met with several trade and commerce delegations, including representatives from the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry and MSME Development Forum. He emphasized the government’s commitment to boosting local industries and tourism, especially in light of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

“Homestays are booming, tourists are returning, and Kashmir’s economy is on the rise,” he said.

Support for Handicrafts and GST Relief
Goyal also promised to recommend a reduction in GST on handicrafts and handlooms from 12% to 5%, aiming to revive the region’s traditional arts and crafts sector. Discussions are underway to open a new assembly and production center to support artisans.

Tata Steel has entered into a strategic partnership with Australia’s InQuik Group to introduce modular bridge construction technology to India, marking a significant leap in the country’s infrastructure development landscape. The collaboration aims to deliver rapid, cost-effective, and climate-resilient bridges that can transform connectivity in remote and underserved regions. Strategic Collaboration Overview The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Tata Steel and InQuik sets the stage for a new era of smart construction. By combining Tata Steel’s industrial scale and engineering expertise with InQuik’s patented modular bridge systems, the partnership will offer a scalable solution to India’s growing infrastructure demands. Key highlights of the partnership: - Tata Steel will integrate InQuik’s modular bridge technology into its infrastructure solutions portfolio - The technology enables rapid deployment of reinforced concrete bridges using prefabricated steel formwork - Bridges are designed for durability, with a lifespan of up to 100–150 years - The system reduces construction time, environmental impact, and logistical complexity Technology and Impact InQuik’s system involves pre-engineered steel components that are transported to the site and filled with concrete, eliminating the need for extensive on-site fabrication. This approach enhances safety, reduces costs, and accelerates project timelines—especially critical in disaster-prone or remote areas. The bridges are engineered to meet Indian and international standards, ensuring resilience against floods, seismic activity, and heavy traffic. The modular design also allows for easy scalability and customization based on regional needs. Vision and Future Outlook Tata Steel’s leadership emphasized that this partnership aligns with its broader vision of delivering sustainable and technology-driven construction solutions. The initiative supports India’s national goals of improving rural connectivity, reducing isolation, and fostering inclusive development. InQuik, on its part, views the collaboration as a milestone in its global expansion, with India poised to become a key market for its innovative infrastructure systems.
