Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of spiritual unity resonated across India on Tuesday as he called upon devotees to join the Guru Charan Yatra, a historic procession carrying the sacred relics of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji’s Jore Sahib (pair of footwear) for permanent enshrinement at Takht Patna Sahib, Bihar.
Key Highlights
PM Modi’s Appeal: Extending heartfelt wishes to devotees, the Prime Minister said, “May the Guru Charan Yatra deepen our connect with the noble ideals of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji. I urge people in the areas this Yatra will cover to come and have Darshan of the holy ‘Jore Sahib’.”.
The Sacred Relics: The ‘Jore Sahib’ is a pair of wooden footwear believed to have been worn by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, and his wife Mata Sahib Kaur Ji. Measuring approximately 11 inches and 9 inches respectively, the relics carry over 300 years of heritage, having been preserved by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s family for generations.
The Journey of Faith: The Guru Charan Yatra, also known as “Charan Suhawa Yatra”, begins October 23 from Gurudwara Moti Bagh, New Delhi, and will pass through Faridabad, Agra, Bareilly, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, and Varanasi, before reaching Patna Sahib on November 1, marking the pilgrimage’s conclusion.
Historic Handing Over Ceremony: On October 22, Hardeep Singh Puri formally handed over the relics to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) at Gurudwara Moti Bagh during a spiritual Kirtan Samagam, where devotees had the rare opportunity to view the sacred footwear before its journey.
Spiritual and Cultural Message: The event underscores India’s diverse spiritual unity and the significance of preserving sacred heritage through public participation. PM Modi’s message highlighted Sikhism’s values of courage, equality, and seva (service), calling the Yatra a chance to reconnect with the Guru’s teachings of righteousness and humility.
A Journey of Devotion and Legacy
As the Guru Charan Yatra sets forth towards Bihar, the country witnesses not just the movement of sacred relics, but a reaffirmation of faith, service, and unity—reflecting India’s proud spiritual continuity.
