Infrastructure Rollout Begins in Tuticorin
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and dedicate a series of transformative projects worth over ₹4,800 crore during his two-day visit to Tamil Nadu on July 26–27. The initiatives span aviation, highways, ports, railways, and clean energy, aimed at boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.
Key Highlights
Tuticorin Airport’s new terminal building, built at ₹450 crore, will handle 20 lakh passengers annually and is designed for future expansion
Two major highway upgrades:

– Four-laning of Sethiyathope–Cholapuram stretch of NH-36 (₹2,350 crore)

– Six-laning of NH-138 Tuticorin Port Road (₹200 crore)
Port and Rail Enhancements
North Cargo Berth–III at V.O. Chidambaranar Port (₹285 crore) adds 6.96 MMTPA dry bulk capacity
Railway upgrades include:

– Electrification of Madurai–Bodinayakkanur line (90 km)

– Doubling of Nagercoil Town–Kanniyakumari (21 km), Aralvaymozhi–Nagercoil Junction (12.87 km), and Tirunelveli–Melappalayam (3.6 km)
