The IPL’s sudden postponement due to India-Pakistan tensions sent foreign players scrambling for flights home. Punjab Kings coach Ricky Ponting was among them—until a ceasefire announcement changed everything.
Just as he was about to leave, Ponting deboarded his flight in Delhi, choosing to stay back and reassure his team. His leadership didn’t stop there. With uncertainty looming, he personally convinced key overseas players—Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, and Xavier Bartlett—to remain in India, easing their concerns.
Punjab Kings management acknowledged the players’ anxiety, stating that foreign cricketers aren’t accustomed to such geopolitical situations. Ponting’s intervention ensured team stability, though South African player Marco Jansen opted to return home via Dubai.
With most of Punjab Kings’ squad still intact, the franchise now awaits the revised IPL schedule, hoping to resume their campaign without further disruptions.
