Powering Kerala’s Future: Tata Power Secures 120 MWh Battery Storage Pact with NHPC

Tata Power Company Ltd has signed a landmark agreement with NHPC to deploy a 30 MW/120 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kerala, marking a major step toward grid modernization and renewable integration in the state.
 
Key highlights of the agreement:
  • The BESS will provide four hours of energy backup, enhancing grid stability and supporting peak load management
  • Tata Power will supply and install the system under a longterm purchase agreement, ensuring reliable energy storage for NHPC’s operations
  • The project aligns with India’s national energy storage roadmap and Kerala’s push for clean energy resilience
  • This marks Tata Power’s second major BESS deployment after its 120 MWh installation in Chhattisgarh, reinforcing its leadership in utilityscale storage
